However, to what extent do pieces like this help to form an accurate picture of what is going on in a part of the world that is so far away and so unknown to the majority of people?

NBC’s Digital Chief has declared that user-generated content is not journalism. How far do you agree? There is no doubt that it makes an impact but is it always positive? It is difficult to determine what effect such videos have but, as the 1.7 million views suggest, they reach an audience that is looking for more information.

I happen to think it is important for all information to be made available so that people can form their opinion based on as an accurate a picture as possible.
